Heads up on new Minnesota legislation effective August 1: (8 hours ago)

New Divorce Petitions

To round out practicelaw’s collection of new family law forms, we’ve added new sample petitions for dissolution of marriage. Six sample petitions and a new clause library are now available on practicelaw as Microsoft Word documents.

We created the new sample petitions to fit common fact patterns, ranging from a divorce without kids and no spousal maintenance to a divorce involving minor children, child support, and a request for spousal maintenance. fam-icon produced the forms through mndocs, the MSBA’s document automation system, and then edited and formatted them for use as stand-alone Microsoft Word forms by adding bracketed text where a user would fill in case-specific information.

We also created a clause library to cover circumstances that do not fit neatly into sample forms, such as military status, the presence of adult dependent children, and various scenarios involving the parties’ income and health insurance.

As always, let us know if you have any suggestions to improve the forms or to call attention to anything you believe we may be missing. Try out our new feedback function on practicelaw, drop us a comment here on the blog, or reach us privately through the Practice Blawg’s e-mail contact form.
